MFC buying guide - Maruti Suzuki Wagon R
The first Wagon R was launched in 1999 followed by a face lifted model in 2003 and then another face lift version in 2006. So after a span of good ten years of product life cycle for the very first car, Maruti Suzuki India Limited felt that it was time to launch an all new version of the Wagon R based on a brand new platform. The new version of the Wagon R is much bolder in its looks and more aggressive and spacious while being much more sophisticated in its looks both inside and out, then its earlier models.
Attention has been given to the minute detailing of the exteriors of this Wagon R. The Wagon R is designed on a tall boy principle which essentially means that the car is narrow, but tall in height. For example, it is narrower than the Chevrolet Beat and the Hyundai i10 by 100mm narrower. However, the Wagon R is considerably taller than both of those cars. The box like structure of the Wagon R lets it free up more space, especially the head space inside the cabin. The wheels have been pushed to the extremes to offer a wheel base of 2400mm. The front part comes with prominent head lights that have a touch of blue in them. These large head lights give the hatch back car a very docile look. The radiator grille in the front gets a thin accent of chrome. Going over to the rear part of the car, the tall looks of this model comes off very evidently. While the rear profile sports a look that is very similar to the other versions of the Wagon R, it has been given a high mounted stop lights and additional low brake lights. The interiors of the car have been designed in black and beige combined shades with an attractive instrument cluster accentuated with orange shade. The Wagon R offers fantastic head space due to its tall stance with moderate leg space. This car bears a minimalistic design on the interiors, the key takeaways being the space and the practicality that it offers.
The Wagon R was one of the first cars from Maruti Suzuki to be driven by the potent K-Series engine. It comes with a 3 cylinder, 1.0 litre motor that generates 67 BHP of power and 90Nm of torque and performs really well for daily usage and offers mileage of 20.51 kmpl, which is amongst the best in the class. The Wagon R also comes equipped with automated manual transmission system.
