Maruti Suzuki Baleno crosses 1 lakh mark in bookings
The Maruti Suzuki Baleno has literally taken the Indian market by storm over the last few months. The car was launched in the month of October 2015 and has dominated the premium hatchback category ever since. The Baleno has given stiff competition to the segment topper, i.e. the Hyundai Elite i20. The Baleno has been a popular and successful spin on a brand name which was unsuccessful earlier in the garb of a sedan.
Baleno On The Top
The Baleno has done fantastically well in the domestic market and has garnered record bookings for Maruti Suzuki. The Baleno is selling so well and demand is so huge that the company is struggling to meet demand for the car. The car already commands a waiting period of 6-8 months and is one of the most popular cars in the country at present. The Baleno is sold at the premium NEXA dealerships owned by Maruti Suzuki and offers high performance, attractive design, top class features and good fuel economy at a competitive price point.
The Maruti Suzuki Baleno has now crossed the 1 lakh mark in terms of bookings. This is a major milestone for Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest carmaker, which has proved once again that it has its finger right on the customer pulse of the nation. The Baleno has only been in the market for eight months and this is a huge coup for the company. The company is struggling to meet huge demand for the Baleno and has announced that it will scale up production volumes of the car to more than 12, 000 units every month which is the current output. Production was earlier doubled to 12, 000 but this did not prove to be enough as demand skyrocketed across the country for the premium hatchback.
In order to keep waiting periods from being a deterrent for customers, Maruti Suzuki is working round the clock to meet demand and lower waiting periods. The company is aiming at bringing down huge waiting periods considerably by the second half of the year. The Gujarat plant owned by Suzuki will also be operational from next year and will produce the Baleno along with other models. This plant will also help Maruti Suzuki meet demand seamlessly and ramp up sales figures of the Baleno even further. Additionally, the company has already started exporting the Baleno to the Japanese market where it is showing immense potential for success.

The Baleno was launched at a starting price of INR 4.99 lakhs (ex-showroom) with its top end variant priced at INR 8.11 lakhs (ex-showroom). The average waiting period of 6 months is something Maruti Suzuki has to overcome and reduce if it has to ramp up sales figures and volumes further for the Baleno which may actually be one of the highest selling cars for the company if it continues its scorching performance in the domestic market. The Baleno has both diesel and petrol variants and there is a CVT automatic transmission variant available for the petrol model as well.
